Russell and Lynn become part of the 1920 tourist trade to London and Paris with some genuinely funny results. They adapt to foreign customs after a few at-sea romances, an episode in a swanky restaurant involving shedding rabbit capes, and an evening locked in Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral. An equally enjoyable sequel, OUR HEARTS WERE GROWING UP, made it to the screen two years later. Gish's appearance marked her return to Paramount after a 17-year absence. Russell and Lynn as the two authors who blithely careened around Europe in the 1920s and then wrote about it, were delightful ingenues at the time, although Russell suffered the agonies of the damned from stage fright, which continued all during her brief career. Both dead now--raven-haired Russell tragically at the age of 36, and Lynn, the daughter-in-law of New York Post publisher Dorothy Schiff, of a stroke at the age of 45--neither lived up to her early promise. leave a comment
