A failed political satire from Robert Altman, HEALTH is set in Florida during a convention of health-food devotees on hand to elect a new president. Glenda Jackson and Lauren Bacall play the leading contenders, with James Garner playing the latter's campaign manager, and Carol Burnett
appearing as a White House health adviser. Dick Cavett plays himself, covering the convention for his TV show. The political overtones are more than a little over-stated, and the film is filled with wildly overdrawn caricatures. Altman's gift for underscoring the humor inherent in situations
clearly deserted him in HEALTH, which deservedly got only limited distribution.
