Based on a true incident in which Jefferson Davis in pre-Civil War times tried to set up a camel corps in Texas, this picture never moves past dull, sitcom humor. BENJI director Camp tries his hand at presenting humpbacks this time and finds them considerably less responsive to his
cutesy methods. Hampton is a dim-witted soldier who is assigned the task of replacing horses with camels, as well as holding the audience's attention for the overlong 126 minutes--a chore for any adult and most children. Elam turns in the best performance as a black-hat type out to sabotage a
horse-versus-camel race.
