Robinson is fearsome in this disturbing, brutal film as a Chinese assassin who is told he must execute a childhood friend, Naish. Understanding that his friend is acting honorably, Naish wills Robinson all of his assets and makes him promise to marry his daughter, Young, when she grows up. Years after the killing takes place, Robinson is seen as an Americanized member of the Chinese community, wed to Young. She, however, gives her love to the crooked Fenton. Robinson learns of her unfaithfulness and sends her and her lover away. In a strange turn of events, he sells all the property he has accumulated and becomes a farmer. It's not long before he hears news that Fenton and Young have ended up in China selling drugs. Dutifully, Robinson heads east and finds his wife enslaved. He buries his vengeful hatchet in Fenton, and takes his wife home. Robinson's struggles are engrossing for the majority of the film, if one can get used to seeing him dressed in silk robes. leave a comment
