Mastroianni and Deneuve head a fine cast as the parents of an 18-month old girl who dies tragically. They withdraw themselves from normal social activity, staying in their apartment for weeks with the curtains drawn. Finally Mastroianni attempts to break from the ennui by leaving the apartment with Deneuve. There are laughs and there are laughs. Larry walking into the sushi place to loud greetings of "Chicken Teriyaki Boy"? That's a laugh. But Larry's father watching porn so loud it could be heard throughout the whole front hall of the nursing home? That's a laugh. I mean, I'm giggling as I type this. His sweet, old dad with those giant glasses, saying "What? I can't hear it." Truly a classic moment, and one that can be shown only on pay-cable.
