Hangup

1974, Movie, R, 94 mins

A disappointing ending to a fine directorial career, HANGUP represents a classic Hollywood example of how studios ignore talented filmmakers. Hathaway was a veteran of 1940s westerns and directed John Wayne in the marvelous TRUE GRIT. For his last feature, however, Hathaway was assigned this nonsense black-exploitation film about some drug racketeers. For what this is, it's not bad (Bey gives a nice performance as an ill-fated hooker), but the genre didn't demand much talent from the director. leave a comment
