Inept Taylor-Burton vehicle is one more variation on the Faust legend, with Burton as a lunatic consigned to Ustinov's asylum. There he promises wealth and power to nose-picking male nurse, Bridges, in return for help in escaping. Along with greasy-spoon waitress Taylor, they set out on a string of antisocial, money-making schemes. Before long Bridges has the power and wealth promised him, but Burton and Taylor conspire together to cut him out of the picture. This bloated, uninspired production features Burton staring blankly throughout (director Ustinov told him "Never close your eyes"), but Taylor's screeching, drawling portrayal of a truck-stop waitress is not to be missed. leave a comment
