The rediscovery of boho belletrist Paul Bowles continues apace, this time with two young German filmmakers teaming up to realize three of Bowles's minor short stories. Fairly slight, these tales depend more on mood, setting and characterization than strong story lines,
but they should reward the patience of today's legion of born-again beatniks. Directors Frieder Schlaich and Irene von Alberti demonstrate a sure hand in adapting difficult material, and Bowles himself provides the narration.
