Half A Hero

1953, Movie, NR, 71 mins

Unlike the usual zany slapstick Skelton is noted for, HALF A HERO finds him in a subdued role in this domestic comedy of a hen-pecked husband and his wife, Hagen, who live in a suburban housing development. When assigned by his boss to write an article about the terrible life in suburbia, Skelton complies, seeing this as a chance to move back to the city. But before he finishes the article, he is a changed man who stands up to his grouchy boss and even gets a raise. Rather than the big laughs he usually plays for, Skelton's comedy here is low-key and from the heart. It works well in an unusual departure for the great comic. The supporting cast is good, and young Corcoran is a pint-size Skelton look-alike. leave a comment
