A dopey movie about childhood buds Thurgood (Dave Chappelle), Scarface (Guillermo Diaz), Brian (Jim Breuer) and Kenny (Harland Williams), who grow up, in a manner of speaking, in a haze of marijuana smoke. And they couldn't be happier, until the fateful day when good-hearted Kenny, out on a munchie run, accidentally sends a police horse into a diabetic coma by feeding it strawberry popcorn and Funyuns. He's thrown into jail, and his friends have to come up with $100,000 to save him from the fate worse than death at the hands of Nasty Nate. The bumblers steal pot from the research lab where Thurgood works and start up their own business, earning the wrath of flamboyant local dealer Samson Simpson (Clarence Williams III) and angering Thurgood's new squeeze (Rachel True), anti-drug crusader Mary Jane (a little jest on the part of her dad the drug dealer). But the plot is simply an excuse for a string of good-natured dope jokes (come on -- you have to love that their hookah is called Billy Bong Thornton) and goofy sight gags inspired by everything from Jerry Garcia to Jerry Maguire, most of which are undoubtedly funniest if you're eight miles high. The comedic pot is sweetened by guest appearances from Janeane Garofalo as a dope-fueled poet, Snoop Doggy Dogg as the guy who always bogarts that joint, Tommy Chong as jailhouse ninja "the squirrel master" and Willie Nelson as an old-school weedhead who can't take a toke without mentioning the '60s. leave a comment --Maitland McDonagh
