Nikki Blonsky's Father Released on Bail | Today's News: Our Take | 8/12/2008
Nikki Blonsky's dad, Carl, was released from jail Monday morning, Entertainment Tonight reports.Blonsky had been locked up following a July 30 airport scuffle he and the Hairspray star engaged in with America's Next Top Model's Bianca Golden and her mother over waiting area seats at Providenciales International Airport in Turks and Caicos. Currently facing charges of inflicting grevious bodily harm, the elder Blonsky wasnitially denied bail, but was Hairspray star's freed after the Chief Justice awarded him a $3,000 bail on his behalf.Blonsky, who must remain on the island as his travel papers are in police custody, is due to appear in court on Aug. 19.His Golden Globe-nominated 19-year-old daughter was charged with assault and has already been released on $6,000 bail. She is due back in court in December, while Golden, 19, also free on bail, returns to court Sept. 16 to face her assault charges. — Joyce Eng read more

Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky may be changing her tunes to those of West Side Story. The actress and her father were arrested on charges of assault after a rumble with the family of America's Next Top Model alum Bianca Golden at the Providenciales International Airport in Turks and Caicos."They were involved in an altercation at the airport in the departure lounge," Sgt. Chase of the Turks and Caicos Islands Police Department told E!. The scuffle reportedly erupted over a disagreement about saved seats in the waiting area. Nikki was charged with assault, actual bodily harm and common assault while her father, Carl, faces a count of inflicting grievous bodily harm. Nikki was released on $6,000 bail, but her dad remains behind bars until August 8. Bianca Golden was also charged with counts of assault, while her mother Elaine sustained injuries that warranted an airlift to Florida for further care. Cowabunga, dude! The Simpsons Movie didn't just open big, it opened Homer's-belly big! With a haul of $71.9 million, it was not only the No. 1 flick of the week, it was also the fifth biggest debut of the year. Rounding out the top five are I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, with a $19.1 million take; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, adding $17.1 million to its kitty; Hairspray, catching another $15.6 million in its Miss Baltimore Crab nets; and the new Catherine Zeta-Jones romcom No Reservations, with a paltry $11.8 million. Of course, even Zeets' numbers looked pretty sweet compared to those of our beleaguered LiLo: Her new (last?) pic, I Know Who Killed Me, generated only $3.4 million in ticket sales. The weekend box office title may, just may, be up for grabs. Despite awful, awful reviews, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry opened with an estimated $34.8 million, versus $32.2 mil for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was anchored down a bit by a certain book's release. Final figures to be released Monday will confirm this week's crown. Either way, the box office was up 3.5 percent compared to a year ago.Rounding out the top five were Hairspray (debuting to $27.8 million, two-thirds of which came from female filmgoers), Transformers ($20.5 mil) and Ratatouille ($11 mil), which I still can't convince my kids to see. #*$@ing Cars loyalists! read more
