1951, Movie, NR, 91 mins

Disheartened because his playing days appear to be over, pro football player Harry Joplin (Paul Douglas) begins losing touch with his long-suffering wife, Kath (Joan Bennett), and has an affair with a model (Linda Darnell). After giving wrestling a try, Harry gets his come-back shot, but even though the pro ranks have been depleted by the war effort, he still doesn't have what it takes--and now he knows it. By the finale, Harry has had one more moment in the sun and taken a coaching job, while the model has realized that Harry belongs with Kath. Although its flashback structure is a little confusing, this isn't a bad film, with strong performances from the leads, particularly Douglas, who essays the role of the overweight pipe dreamer with a mixture of melancholy and humor. leave a comment
