One of the few Twentieth Century Fox Technicolor musicals to flop during the WW II years. Miranda had her first top billing in this silly presentation which takes place in New York City during the early 1920s. Ameche is a composer who tries to spark interest in his piano concerto. Bendix, a speakeasy owner, is raising money to stage a Broadway show, and he successfully adapts Ameche's concerto into an uptown musical. In her screen debut, Blaine plays a speakeasy singer that Ameche falls for. The film is replete with singing, dancing numbers by Tony and Sally Demarco's ballroom steps, and the Four Step Brother's jazz dancing. Songs include "It Goes to Your Toes," "Give Me a Band and a Bandana," "It's All for Art, Art's Sake," "I'm Down to My Last Dream," "Oh Brother," "I Have to See You Privately," "This Is Our Lucky Day," "You Make Me So Mad," "Never Before," "I've Been Smiling in My Sleep," "Tell Me It's You," "That Thing They Talk About," "Whispering," "Swinging Down the Lane," "When You Wore a Tulip," "I'm Just Wild about Harry." leave a comment
