Beatty is a fisherman who decides to become a doctor. Before finishing medical school, he treats Raye, the daughter of his landlady, whose plight is thought by the medical establishment to be incurable. The case receives great attention, not only because she is cured, but because Beatty was not a licensed doctor at the time he cured her. Despite having no degree and being shunned by the experts, he goes into osteopathy, marries Raye, and embarks on a very successful life. Along the way, he has an affair with Pilbeam. After deciding to break off the affair, Beatty dumps her and she commits suicide. During the autopsy, it is discovered that Beatty misdiagnosed her illness and his treatment led to her death. Shattered, he takes off for the seas again. But his wife's disease recurs and she begs of him to use his "green fingers" once more. She is soon cured, and they live happily ever after. leave a comment
