Beatty is a fisherman who decides to become a doctor. Before finishing medical school, he treats Raye, the daughter of his landlady, whose plight is thought by the medical establishment to be incurable. The case receives great attention, not only because she is cured, but because Beatty was not a licensed doctor at the time he cured her.
