Barry Oakley's popular novel A Salute to the Great McCarthy gave rise to an Australian stage hit, a well-received TV series, and this film about a country lad (Jarratt) who is abducted and brought to Melbourne to play Australian Rules Football for a team run by colonel Humphries (Edna Everage of the "Barry McKenzie" films).
