Courtroom drama that sees ailing super-barrister Lang prove that Bannerman's husband Margetson did not stab his mistress, Stuart, to death. The killer is, in fact, homicidal maniac Bird, who is obsessed with the Bible. Lang wins his case, but the trauma of the trial proves too great for
him; he dies, in a performance well reprised by Charles Laughton in the strangely similar WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (1957), based on a play by Agatha Christie.
