GREASE
starstarstarstar
You know you love it. It's tacky, loud and crude, and has far more to do with the '70s in which it was made than the late '50s in which it's set, but it's still an awful lot of fun. Adapted from the smash Broadway musical, it was originally planned as a cartoon; what they came up with comes pretty close. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John star as summer lovers whose romance gets complicated once school starts in the fall. Read the complete review for Grease

Billy Bush, that is. The Access Hollywood coanchor has been tapped by NBC to cohost the upcoming reality competition, You're the One That I Want, in which Danny and Sandy wannabes vie for roles in a Broadway revival of Grease. Fronting the show with Bush will be U.K. TV personality Denise Van Outen, because after all, you cannot, repeat cannot, have a reality series without a British accent. Just ain't done. read more

American Idol Fifties night was...

American IdolFifties night was far kinder to the wannabes than Stevie Wonder night was last week. And the evening clearly belonged to Mandisa. Wow... just wow. A note to Paula Abdul: No woman wants to be compared to a horse. Paris thrived vocally on "Fever," but she's so young that the "vamp" thing didn't work so well for her. To quote the cinema classic and '50s-themed flick Grease, "she's too pure to be pink." For a minute I was so excited to see Live on stage doing "I Alone." But then I realized it was Chris, stopping once again in the '90s for inspiration instead of heading to the '50s like everyone else. He's always great, but I'm waiting for Simon to coax Chris out read more

Skating with Celebrities It's...

Skating with CelebritiesIt's the first elimination round. One team skates off the rink forever, without the benefit of America's votes. (Take that, Dancing with the Stars!) New technical requirement: synchronized footwork. Theme: the '70s. Kristy and Lloyd: I love how they keep calling her a "movie actress." Don't know why, I just get a kick out of it. This week, Buffy is resurrected in the eyes of the judges. The pair connects. They wear cool headbands (not!). They get the highest score for the evening: 50.7.Dave and Nancy: I'm not sure, but if you clocked them, I believe they may have performed the slowest spins in recorded history. A definite letdown from last week. Score: 47.4.Bruce and Tai: These Olympians were idolized in the '70s. Sir CrankyPants says they're not as fit as they were back read more
