Even Johnson can't save this low-budget rehash of John Ford's western classic THE SEARCHERS (1956), this time told from the point of view of the Indians. Johnson plays a tough frontier trapper who launches a lengthy search for his daughter, who was kidnaped by a young Cheyenne brave. As the girl is dragged back to the deathbed of Chief Running Wolf (Fix) through a variety of beautiful western locales, we gradually learn that the Cheyenne chief is her real father. Inane attempt at making the Indians sympathetic through the character of Johnson family friend Cody--who is really a sort of "Uncle Tom" of the redskins--that fails because of Pierce's racist view of Indians in general. The cutting of 40 minutes for varied markets further hurts the Indian perspectives. leave a comment
