Grand Slam: Review

Unusual light comedy concerning the national craze for bridge tournaments. Lukas plays the Russian waiter (who would rather be pursuing a career as a serious author) who stumbles into a bridge match with the undisputed king of bridge, Gottschalk. Soon Lukas and his wife (who plays on his team) become the "Bridge Sweethearts of America" and promote their playing method as a way to solve marital problems. Unfortunately the couple split temporarily due to an argument while playing, leaving Lukas to battle Gottschalk alone. It soon begins to appear that Lucas will lose, until his wife returns and together they expose Gottschalk as a fraud whose last con was pretending he was an Indian at a traveling medicine show. Fine comic performance from Lukas holds the silly material together.
