Graduation Day

1981, Movie, R, 85 mins

Scanning the list of available special days upon which to base an entire slasher movie (as in HALLOWEEN; MY BLOODY VALENTINE; MOTHER'S DAY; PROM NIGHT; NEW YEAR'S EVIL; BLOODY BIRTHDAY, etc.), the best the producers of this film could come up with was GRADUATION DAY. Wholly derivative and uninspired, this is just another slice-and-dice film, with the members of a high-school track team killed off one by one in a variety of fiendish and gross ways, including a scene in which a clod pole-vaults into a bed of spikes. The main suspects include the track coach (Christopher George) and the school principal (Michael Pataki). The only reasons to watch GRADUATION DAY are to see current horror-movie queen Linnea Quigley (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD; HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS) and, more important, to get a glimpse of "Wheel of Fortune" megastar Vanna White. leave a comment
