This is a film with a good idea and a talented cast of youthful actors; sadly, 29-year-old director Savage Steve Holland (BETTER OFF DEAD, ONE CRAZY SUMMER) fails to make the most of either. High-school senior Marion Browne (Corey Parker) has a lousy grade-point average but an overwhelming desire to get into prestigious Ramsey College, where admissions honcho Leo Whitman (Charles Rocket) isn't about to relax the school's standards. Jessica Kailo (Lara Flynn Boyle), the popular president of their Michigan high-school's student government, has everything going for her, yet she too finds competition for entrance to Ramsey super-stiff. With the help of a marketing firm and a baby elephant, Marion and Jessica team up storm the ivory tower. Where it should be hilarious, HOW I GOT INTO COLLEGE tends to be just plain silly. The characters remain underdeveloped and the plot, while straightforward, lacks focus. leave a comment
