Silly war-time drama starring Barker as a teacher at a military school who has lost the respect of his students because he is not in uniform. Crushed, Barker convinces the draft board to release him from his "essential" status, and he enlists, only to discover he is unacceptable due to a punctured eardrum. Rather than face his students with this latest humiliation, he takes a job at a shipyard and leads the kids to believe he is in the army by answering letters from them addressed to boot camp but forwarded to him by a soldier buddy. Soon suspicions arise that he is a deserter at best and a Nazi spy at worst. This puts a strain on the new romance he has developed with fellow welder Trevor, but all turns out fine in the end when Buchanan emerges the hero of a shipyard fire. This story's credibility is stretched to the limit. leave a comment
