Unscrupulous South African mine owners plot to flood their holdings, thus raising gold prices around the world. Moore is a mine foreman who is unwittingly used by the owners, as is York, the wife of a mine operator. This is a grimly realistic film with a suspenseful climax. The flooding of the mine looks brutally convincing. Bernstein's dramatic score works well, adding emotion and tension to the flooding sequences. Shot on location in South Africa. The tune "Wherever Love Takes Me" by Elmer Bernstein and Don Black, received an Oscar nomination for Best Song. leave a comment
