Gold

Kayssler is a modern day alchemist, who, along with his assistant, Albers, creates an atomic reactor capable of changing lead to gold. They are made a handsome offer by Bohnen for their discovery but decide gold-making is beneath their talents and the machine is destroyed. The photography gives a nice atmospheric look to GOLD and the acting is quite strong. Helm is especially good as the assistant who is also the lover. A French version, entitled L'OR, was shot simultaneously by Serge de Poligny, with some of the actors taking different roles. Helm, however, played the same character in both versions.
