We'd like to be able to report that GOLD DIGGERS is a much-needed antidote to all those boys' coming-of-age stories, but the female equivalent of STAND BY ME has yet to be filmed. Despite the very real charms of young leads Christina Ricci and Anna Chlumsky, this perfunctory kiddie adventure fails to persuade.
