Herbert Leonard, who successfully produced many TV shows, made his directorial debut with this film but was defeated by Mitchum's sleep-walking. Recently released from prison, Mitchum is a man who murdered his wife 13 years previously and is attempting to establish a relationship with his son, Vincent, who saw him dispatch the woman in a gruesome fashion. Mitchum settles in a seaside town, and Vincent goes looking for him. Mitchum is now an empty hulk of a man living with Vaccaro, who acts as the go-between for the two men. She is good as the woman, and Vincent is believable as the confused and angry young man. It was interesting to see Mitchum break out of his tough-guy mold, but he may have stretched for something beyond his talents with this one. A bunch of songs are interspersed: "Way Back Home In West Virginia," "The Lala Song," "You Never Know How Much" (Bill Walker), "Time After Time" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne), "Blue Moon" (Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart), "Tell Me About Love" (Danny Vic, sung by Red Lane), "Silver Bird" (Lane), "Rope Around the Wind," and "Singaree Singaroh" (Lane, Harry Henley, sung by Lane) leave a comment
