Ryan, in a wonderful performance, is a Georgia farmer who believes there is buried treasure somewhere on his farm. With the help of sons Lord and Morrow, he tries to find the treasure. Only one spot is not touched: an acre of land with a cross on it, specifically set for tithing (hence the
title of the film). However the blessed little acre is constantly being changed around in the never-ending search. A sub-plot involving Ryan's son-in-law, Ray, concerns the younger man's efforts to restart the local cotton mill. Unfortunately he dies in a fruitless effort. This is a splendid
