This low-budget action picture is aimed squarely at men who love cat fights, but it's hard to imagine who else would enjoy its mix of brutal action and feminist moralizing. Maxine (Maisi Mayo) has a giant chip on her shoulder; abused by jealous boyfriend Benny (Russell Friedenberg), she has no outlet for her frustration. Bounced from her bar-girl gig for punching a lecherous customer, Maxine passes a street fight and decides to kick ass for cash. Lesbian fight promoter Lily (C.C. Heidik) introduces Maxine to big boss Doug (Bobby Fine), who appreciates Maxine’s potential but can't understand why she doesn't want to make pugilism her full-time career or sleep with him. Although male champ Ringo (Ryan Barreras) takes Maxine under his wing, he can only teach her slick moves, not good sportsmanship. Despite the fact that other female fighters hate her, Maxine rises quickly in the sport. When Benny notices that she's got some extra spending money, he accuses her of prostituting herself and demands a cut of her earnings. Doug meanwhile decides to teach Maxine a lesson by pitting her against the undefeated Dog Girl (Rachel Lanning). Fortunately, fellow fighter Jackie (Tiffany Mayes) manages to break through Maxine’s self-defense mechanisms and offers her refuge from Benny. Impressed by that Jackie is enrolled in pre-med classes, Maxine starts to envision a better life for herself. But she'll have to break free of dominating males and learn how to fight for herself first. With its bottom-of-the-barrel production values, this crass exploitation movie makes the most of its gritty atmosphere. But aside from the realistic-looking fight scenes, director Ana Clavell's brutal female-empowerment picture has little to recommend it. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
