GIRLS CAN PLAY is a bizarre crime drama dealing with a girls' baseball team, a murder, gangsters, and newspaper reporters. Ex-convict Gallaudet, who sells cheap liquor with bogus labels, runs a drugstore and sponsors a girls' baseball team. The action shifts between the crime plot and the baseball diamond where the beautiful girls practice. Gallaudet's ex-con pal shows up and Gallaudet kills him to keep him quiet. Later the girl catcher is poisoned on the playing field. On the trail of the murderer is dim-witted police officer Williams and an equally lamebrained cub reporter, Quigley. Gallaudet sells the drugstore and the illegal liquor and tries to get away with the money before the slow law can catch up with him. Rita Hayworth makes one of her early screen appearances as Gallaudet's moll. leave a comment
