Immigrants arriving in America in 1902 go through a series of episodic adventures. Tamiroff is a cruel sweatshop owner; Haas is a travel agent taking advantage of greenhorns; and Wanamaker, in one of his first films, is a young would-be lawyer. He wants to help Palmer in her efforts to get her father to America.
