After being dropped by Perrin's older brother, Cardinale gains the sympathy and friendship of Perrin himself. Perrin soon falls in love with the older Cardinale, buying her clothes that he cannot afford and giving her his allowance. She, however, meets a musician and, knowing that things will never work between her and the 16-year-old Perrin, leaves with him.
