Parolee MacKaye gets out of prison under the limits of a certain "Rule No. 3," which states that he cannot romance or marry. However, when he rescues wide-eyed beauty Philbin after she falls into the water, he cannot help but break the unfair rule. The parole office, luckily, has a heart
and grants MacKaye and his bride-to-be special permission to marry. Barely a talkie, GIRL OVERBOARD, contains only about four minutes of dialog and one song ("Port of Dreams"), but that was enough to help sink Philbin, who, after three more attempts to break through to talkies, retired from the
movies.
