A runaway schoolgirl, Lockwood, is the contrast to the vampishness of Palmer and Houston, both of whom are Lockwood's fellow chorus gals. When the femmes fatales plot to blackmail Sinclair, Lockwood does her own bit of deceiving and saves the earl's day. Tightly directed by Carol Reed, who followed this picture (released in Britain in 1939) with his excellent tale of coal miners, THE STARS LOOK DOWN. leave a comment
