An equally sappy remake of SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY (1946)--as if one version of this story wasn't enough. Bacall, the seriously ill wife of Stack, fears her husband's impending loneliness. She adopts a young girl and gives this "gift of love" to him just before she dies. He soon finds the tot to be more of a nuisance than a blessing and returns her to the orphanage.
