Huston is a hard-bitten newspaperman in this weak adaptation of newspaperman Ward Morehouse's play. It never quite works as we see Huston miss all of the events a man wants to be at due to the pressure of his business. His daughter is born and he is off on assignment; she gets married and he is somewhere else, and he doesn't even make it to her side when she dies in childbirth.
