Gentlemen Of The Press

Huston is a hard-bitten newspaperman in this weak adaptation of newspaperman Ward Morehouse's play. It never quite works as we see Huston miss all of the events a man wants to be at due to the pressure of his business. His daughter is born and he is off on assignment; she gets married and he is somewhere else, and he doesn't even make it to her side when she dies in childbirth. Unremittingly depressing, this movie is enough to talk anyone out of being in the news business. The final scene has Huston at his desk as a Yale graduate interviews him about what it's like to be in the newspaper game. Huston tells the youngster to get out of it before it poisons him. The o...
