GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES

Garish good fun. If the plot of two vacationing showgirls — one out for money (Marilyn Monroe), the other for love (Jane Russell) — sometimes lags in director Howard Hawks' hands, it's compensated by a genuine sweetness, the ironic and witty use of sex-symbol stereotypes and a few great songs, including "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Ain't There Anyone Here for Love." Monroe is, perhaps for the last time, supremely confident in her performance, while Russell nearly steals the whole show. Read the complete review for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
