After turning out LITTLE CAESAR, director LeRoy delivered this lightweight peek at underworld bootlegging. While the film has some fine moments, it is a sloppy, assembly-line piece--not surprisingly, since LeRoy turned out more than 20 films in the period 1930-33. This one was hailed as
a comeback picture for legendary screen idol Gilbert, whose slide began with the advent of talkies, but audiences failed to buy it.
