A frigid 17-year-old girl from New York City, Day, runs away to Rio where she falls in love with architect George, who has become mute since an accident in which his girl friend was killed. She tries to convince him to see a psychiatrist, but he refuses, thinking she wants him to return with her to her socialite crowd.
