Gates Of Paris

Brasseur, a drunk, and his good friend Brassens, a troubadour, meet gangster Vidal and offer him refuge in Brassens' house. Brasseur takes the time to care for Vidal, benefiting from his newfound friendship. Vidal warms up to Carrel, a girl Brasseur has eyes for, and cons her into stealing some money from her cafe owner father. Brasseur prevents Vidal from carrying out his plan and, when the gangster tries to escape, shoots him. A grim look at friendship which is not without its charm, but certainly lacks the comedy that Clair feels he has included.
