The shadows of Performance and the flash reign of the notorious Kray twins hang heavily over this tale of the violent rise of a London crook, played by Malcolm McDowell in present-day London and Master and Commander's Paul Bettanny inf flashbacks. When the unnamed gangster hears from his cronies that someone named Freddie is getting out of jail, the film flashes back to 1968, when the young gangster got his big break from sleek a crime lord (David Thewlis).
