Gangs Of New York

Bickford plays a dual role as a top gangster and a police officer. The gang leader is in jail but still runs his crime operations through a short-wave radio hidden in his cell. When Bickford, the gangster, is put in solitary, away from his radio, Bickford, the cop, takes the mobster's place within the gang. The cop has all the gangsters keep records to become more business-like and so he can collect enough evidence to put them all behind bars. When the gang leader escapes from jail, the intended peaceful round-up turns into a shoot-out.
