In this remake of WATERLOO BRIDGE, Caron is an English ballerina and Kerr an American paratrooper on leave before the WW II D-Day invasion. They fall in love, but their love can't be consummated because he must leave to join the invasion. Caron hears that he has been killed in action and,
upset that she wasn't able to give herself to him, comforts other young soldiers in the bedroom. When Kerr shows up alive, Caron refuses to marry him because she can't come clean to the altar, but Kerr's love is so strong he forgives her.
