Despite the soothing reassurances of his wife Robyn (Michele Greene), confused Robert Dean (Michael Dudikoff) can't stop dreaming about another life he may have led. Unbeknownst to this former soldier, he's become a guinea pig for Robyn's corporation, where Dr. Grace (Ian Ogilvy) has engineered a new identity for him. They've wiped out Dean's memory in order to program him to assassinate incumbent Senator Davis (David Hedison), who's made a campaign promise to cut funding for Dr. Grace's controversial research. Meanwhile, the Senator's inside-man Tucker Foley (Gabriel Dell Jr.) is secretly collecting evidence to discredit Dr. Grace. When his real identity flashes back while he's awake, Dean infiltrates Robyn's database for answers. Upon leaving her lab, Dean encounters a stowaway named Suzanne Hicks (Heather Langenkamp) inside his van. Though initially incredulous, Dean soon believes her claim that they were both subjected to memory erasure experiments. Unfortunately, Senator Davis's back-stabbing campaign manager Jimmy Morabito (Chick Vennera), a secret advocate of Dr. Grace's research, orders the slayings of Foley and Senator Davis's private detective. Dean must fight to resist the subliminal urge to kill the Senator, while Hicks races to a rally where Davis is scheduled to appear. As mind control thrillers go, this fast-paced direct-to-video entry is more entertaining than such similar fare as PERFECT ASSASSINS and MEMORIAL DAY. Once again, Dudikoff shows savvier taste in material than his martial arts contemporaries. Even if the script defies logic once too often, the personable Dudikoff enlists our sympathy for the hero's waking nightmare. Another asset is the film's collection of quietly menacing mad scientists, who make the far-fetched storyline seem all too plausible. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
