Rogers plays a pony express rider operating between California and the frontier territory. He becomes involved in a plot by Confederate spy Dillaway and southern politician Keane to get California to enter the Civil War on the rebel side. Keane, however, is playing both sides (Confederate and Union) against each other so he can walk in and claim the territory as his own. Luckily Rogers and his golden palomino Trigger are on hand to put an end to Keane's plot in another virile Rogers actioner directed by the studio's top director, Joseph Kane. As usual in Rogers' films, little nuggets of history are offered along the way, in this case the influence of the pony express on the Civil War. Hart was another of the many talented and lovely women Rogers performed with before the studio's discovery of Dale Evans, his long-time costar and later his wife. George Montgomery, here still calling himself by his real name, Letz, changed his name the next year when he began taking over leading roles. leave a comment
