Contrived tale about a successful politician, Lyon, who is a candidate for governor of California. As he is about to cast his vote (the polling place is in a tent), a truck careens off the road and crashes into the voting booth, critically injuring the candidate and his opponent. In a flashback, we see Lyon's rise to power from unemployed WW I veteran to powerful waterfront dockworker, finally becoming a lawyer and politician. Twelvetrees plays his long-suffering wife who leaves him during his rise to power. The tearful Twelvetrees, sudser queen of the early 1930s, was at the zenith of her career with this film.
