Ruggles is the milquetoast editorial writer for a conservative periodical and, along with his fellow employees, is forever being bullied by the editor, a sanctimonious prig. Upset with his lot as the groveling flunky, Ruggles strives to add a little pizzazz to his life. The final straw occurs when a soda jerk belittles him with insults.
