A trifle long and a tad preachy, this gentle story of a peaceful Quaker family whose sanctity is disturbed by the Civil War nevertheless remains one of William Wyler's best films of the 1950s. Gary Cooper and Dorothy Maguire star as the parents of young Anthony Perkins who, although morally opposed to war, fears he's using his religion to mask his cowardice.
