A French farce starring Dux as a toy inventor who goes to his boyhood friend Marais, now a wealthy industrialist, to convince him to invest in his new invention. The meeting goes badly when old childhood sore spots resurface, but Dux's wife Darrieux manages to calm things down. Soon after, she finds some love letters to her teen-age daughter Vartan, and Dux immediately suspects Marais as the unnamed lover. Seeing an opportunity to get what he wants from Marais by blackmailing him with the letters, Dux eventually abandons his plan when his daughter finds a new boy friend. Finally, their differences cleared, the two men go into business together. Look for director/actor Jules [Julius] Dassin, an expatriate due to the McCarthy-era witch hunts, in a bit part. At the time of the film's U.S. release, one reviewer wrote, "It appears to be a comedy." (In French; English subtitles.) leave a comment
